Spread the love

This feature is the first of its kind within the music industry because no other platform offers creators this type of revenue model at this scale. In late July, Facebook introduced their music revenue sharing capability for creators. It allows video creators to include licensed music from popular artists you love in videos you post on Facebook and earn a share of in-stream ad revenue from doing that. This opens up a new way for creators and music rights holders (labels, artists, etc) to earn money on the platform!

How It Works

With Facebook’s Music Revenue Sharing feature, whenever you use licensed music in your videos on Facebook that are at least :60 seconds long, you get to earn a share of revenue from in-stream ad inclusions. Video creators receive 20% revenue share on eligible videos, with a separate share going to rights holders and to Meta.

To be eligible for Facebook’s Music Revenue Sharing, video creators must be eligible for in-stream ads and meet Meta‘s monetization eligibility standards. In addition, eligible videos must meet this criteria:

> The Facebook video should be 60 seconds or longer and uploaded to a Facebook Page.

> The featured song must be covered in the Licensed Music library, which contains all eligible songs for Music Revenue Sharing.

> There must be a visual component in the video; the licensed music itself cannot be the primary purpose of the video.

> Upload your video (60 seconds or longer) to your Facebook Page via Creator Studio or direct upload to your Page.

> If the song is eligible for Music Revenue Sharing, you’ll see a notification within Creator Studio and Support Inbox that confirms this.

> Once the video is published to your Page, you’ll receive a notification confirming that your video is earning and sharing revenue.

> Creators can monitor their progress on expected earnings from in-stream ads at any time in Creator Studio.

Note: All content that’s created on the platform must satisfy Facebook’s monetization policies, Community Standards and music guidelines. Videos or music that violate these terms still risk penalties, such as demonetization. More details about revenue sharing can be found in the Meta Help Center.

Music drives culture and social media interactions, with video making up half of the time spent by users on Facebook. Facebook’s music revenue sharing feature also indirectly helps deepen relationships between fans and artists. This new feature was made possible through Meta’s partnerships across the music industry.
